What is the Bell Wi-Fi app?

The Bell Wi-Fi app lets you control, manage and monitor your home Wi-Fi network from anywhere at any time. The Bell Wi-Fi app is available for all customers with our Home Hub 2000, Home Hub 3000 or Home Hub 4000 modems.

Features include:

  • Manage your Wi-Fi network name and password
  • Share your Wi-Fi network with guests
  • See all the devices connected to your network
  • Check Wi-Fi signal strength throughout your network
  • Manage parental controls, such as temporarily blocking Internet access or setting recurring access schedules
  • Run speed tests on your device
  • Install Whole Home Wi-Fi pods

Installing the Bell Wi-Fi app

The Bell Wi-Fi app is available to all customers with our Giga Hub, Home Hub 2000, Home Hub 3000 or Home Hub 4000 modems. The app is free to download on Apple or Android smartphones. It requires Apple iOS 9.1 or higher, or Android OS 4.1 or higher.

To get the app:

  • Search for Bell Wi-Fi in the app store for your mobile device.
  • Download and install the app.
  • Log in to the app one of two ways:
    • Best – Log in with your MyBell username and password. This gives you access to all features of the app and lets you log in without having to be connected to your home Wi-Fi network.
    • Easiest – Automatically log in to the app when you are connected to your home Wi-Fi network. This will limit your access to features like setting Internet blocks or accessing user profiles.

Note: if you see a black screen after updating or installing the Bell Wi-Fi app, please uninstall and reinstall the app.

Troubleshooting your Wi-Fi network

If you are experiencing problems with your Wi-Fi network, start by looking at how well each of your devices connects to your home network. The Bell Wi-Fi app monitors your network to give you a connection quality rating for each device, and to show you when there is a problem.

To view your device connection quality:

  1. Open the Bell Wi-Fi app and log in with your MyBell username and password.
  2. Touch Devices at the bottom of the home screen.
  3. Select the device you want to troubleshoot. The connection quality rating will appear under the device name, along with what channel it’s on and which Wi-Fi pod or modem it’s connected to.

Quality ratings:

  • Excellent – All applications should run properly.
  • Good – All applications should run without major impairments. You may see some buffering for high-speed applications, like 4K video streaming.
  • Fair – Not ideal for real-time applications or high throughput applications, like 4K video streaming.
  • Poor – Your device is not communicating well with the network. Real-time applications such as video calling or streaming may suffer.

Channels:

  • 2.4 GHz – 2.4 GHz channels are slower than 5 GHz but have more range
  • 5 GHz – 5 GHz channels are faster than 2.4 GHz but have less range

Less than excellent connection quality can be caused by many things, such as how far the device is from the modem, interference, what channel it’s using, or the speed tier of your Internet package.

To improve your connection quality rating, try:

  • Toggling your device’s Wi-Fi off and on – This will reconnect the device to the network and let it choose to the best channel.
  • Rebooting your device – This will reset the device’s connection to the network and let it choose the best channel.
  • Moving the device closer to the modem or away from anything that may cause interference (e.g. metal appliances, other devices, etc.)
  • Rebooting your modem

Try these steps one by one, checking the connection quality after each attempt until you see an improvement. The connection quality rating should refresh every minute.

Managing your connected devices

View devices and connection information.

View all the devices connected to your Wi-Fi network.

  1. Open the Bell Wi-Fi app and log in with your MyBell username and password.Get help logging in to the Bell Wi-Fi app.
  2. Touch the People icon at the bottom of the home screen.
  3. Touch Devices.

    Under the device name, you can see how long the device has been online or the last time it was connected.

  4. Select a device to learn more about it.

    Under the device name, you’ll see its connection quality rating, what channel it’s on and other device details.

  5. To rename a device or assign it to a user, select the device and then touch the three dots in the top right corner. You can then select Nickname or Assigned to.

Block or pause Internet access by device

Quickly pause Internet access for a device, or schedule regular times when a device will be blocked from accessing the Internet. 

  1. Open the Bell Wi-Fi app and log in with your MyBell username and password.Get help logging in to the Bell Wi-Fi app
  2. Touch the People icon at the bottom of the home screen.
  3. Touch Devices.
  4. Select the device you wish to block Internet access.
  5. To pause Internet access immediately, touch the Pause icon.

    Choose between setting a timeout period, freezing until midnight or freezing indefinitely.

  6. To schedule times when Internet access is blocked, touch Schedule Internet freeze, then touch New freeze schedule.
  7. Select one of the available options to block the device for a period of time:
    • Until end of day
    • School nights
    • Bedtime
    • Indefinitely
    • Custom

    Note: You can customize the time range for the school nights, bedtime, and custom options by touching the time stamp above the option.

  8. To unblock a device, touch the X on the device page, and then touch X on the device details page.

    Keep in mind that this feature only limits Internet access from your Wi-Fi network. Cellular data can still be used while this function is enabled and downloaded content may still be accessible.

Block or pause Internet access by user

Create user profiles for the people who use your Wi-Fi network so you can pause or block Internet access for all of a user’s devices at once, rather than one device at a time.

  1. Open the Bell Wi-Fi app and log in with your MyBell username and password. Get help logging in to the Bell Wi-Fi app
  2. Touch the People icon at the bottom of the home screen.
  3. Touch the Plus sign to add a user.
  4. Touch Create a person.
  5. Add a picture and name, then touch Done.
  6. Scroll down to the newly created profile, touch the three stacked dots (⋮) and then Tap to assign a device (or Devices assigned if applicable).
  7. If you’ve already assigned devices to the profile, scroll down to see them. To add a device, select one from the list that appears and then touch Done.
  8. To remove a device, touch an assigned device. The checkmark will disappear. Select Done once you’ve unchecked all the devices you wanted to remove.
  9. To pause the Internet for a profile, scroll down to the profile and touch the Pause icon.
  10. Confirm how long the timeout will last: Freeze indefinitely, Freeze until midnight or Set Time out.
  11. To restore Internet access to the profile, touch the X to clear timeout. You can also extend the current timeout.
  12. To block a profile’s Internet access:

    Once a profile has been created, you can create schedules when Internet access is blocked to all the devices listed in the profile.

    1. Touch the People icon at the bottom of the screen.
    2. Scroll down and touch the name of the profile you want to set up a timeout schedule for.
    3. To schedule times when Internet access is blocked, touch Schedule Internet freeze, then touch New freeze schedule.
    4. Select one of the available options to block the device for a period of time:
      • School nights
      • Bedtime
      • Indefinitely
      • Custom

      Note: You can customize the time range for the school nights, bedtime, and custom options by touching the time stamp above the option.

    5. Touch save
    6. Confirm you want to schedule an Internet timeout for the user profile and touch Apply.
    7. Once the timeout is scheduled, you can modify it:
      • Touch the Pencil icon to change the start and end time.
      • Touch the Checkmark to disable or enable the timeout. If the checkmark is green, the scheduled timeout is active.
      • Touch Garbage can icon to delete the scheduled timeout.

      Keep in mind that this feature only limits Internet access from your Wi-Fi network. Cellular data can still be used while this function is enabled and downloaded content may still be accessible.

    Note: You cannot pause a profile that contains the device on which you are using the app.

Sharing your Wi-Fi network with guests

Share your Wi-Fi network name and password with guests.

  1. Open the Bell Wi-Fi app and log in with your MyBell username and password. Get help logging in to the Bell Wi-Fi app.
  2. On the Adapt section of the home page, touch the Share icon beside the hidden Wi-Fi password.
  3. Select the method of sharing you want to use.

Running a speed test

  1. Open the Bell Wi-Fi app and log in with your MyBell username and password. Get help logging in to the Bell Wi-Fi app.
  2. In the Adapt section of the home screen, touch View all.
  3. Touch the device you’re using, and then touch Device Internet speed.
  4. The app will automatically run a speed test from your device.

Control, manage and monitor your home Wi-Fi network with the Wi-Fi app. Here’s how to log in:

  1. Type in your MyBell username and password.
  2. Select your Internet service
    • Wireless Home Internet
    • Fibe Internet
    • Business Fibe Internet

    If you’re unsure, check your Internet package details.

  3. Select your region:
    • Ontario or Québec
    • Atlantic
    • Manitoba
  4. Touch Log in.

    Note: if you’re having issues logging in, touch Forgot password to reset your MyBell credentials.
